Our Team
Hi, I’m Amy
Occupational Therapist
I am the founder and sole practitioner at Amy the OT. I am an experienced occupational therapist with more than 15 years experience working in the disability sector. I am passionate about providing occupational therapy services to my clients using a holistic lens to see the whole person, their environment and unique goals. My focus with every client is connection, empathy and curiosity to co-create opportunities to achieve their goals through meaningful occupations and to enhance their well-being.
My personal experiences undoubtedly shape my work and how I support my clients. I started working as a disability support worker throughout all of my university studies, which gave me a unique insight into the daily demands and practicalities of supporting individuals. In my role as an occupational therapist, I have experience supporting both adults and children with various and complex needs. Throughout my career I have worked mostly with individuals with intellectual disabilities and neurological conditions in community not-for-profit and private practice settings and hospital inpatient and outpatient settings.
The vision for Amy the OT ‘Practical strategies to make daily life easier’ came about in 2023 after realising the need to make changes to the way I work and complete my own daily activities. Despite being successful and passionate about working as an occupational therapist over the years, there was a missing link. Through my work, I was able to show up with meaning and purpose every day by living a heart centred life and having a commitment to enriching the lives of others. I was committed to my own health and well-being as a busy mother, however I continued to experience chronic cycles of burnout and difficulties with sensory processing in my personal and professional life. It was when I was diagnosed autistic and ADHD, that it all made sense. I began to explore and understand my own support needs and started applying accomodations in my own professional and personal life. I applied the same occupational therapy principles I use with my clients to my own life redefining my own well-being in every aspect of my life. That’s when it all began to fall into place and Amy the OT was launched.
While working as an OT is a big part of my identity and how I show up in the world, I am also a proud mother, family member, friend, nature lover and adventurer. When I am not working you will find me at the beach, in the pool, exploring the bush, on the swings at the local park, building lego or spending time with family and friends. My special interest is anything personal growth, holistic health and well-being related, so I will often be researching, learning and practicing things I can use in my own personal life and with my clients. I am a queer and autistic ADHDer woman passionate about providing inclusive and neuro-affirming occupational therapy services.
I continue to work with individuals with various and complex needs. I specialise in and I am passionate about neurological rehabilitation, however, I provide occupational therapy to clients with various physical, intellectual and psychosocial disabilities.
With a vision to merge my personal love of nature into my work. Watch this space as I explore expanding my services to provide individual and group Nature Based Therapy OT services.
I am an experienced Occupational Therapist with full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and member of the Occupational Therapy Australia Association (OTA).
